GET INVOLVED

Visit Kenya

BECOME PART OF OUR WORK IN KENYA.

Visiting students, residents and faculty are core to our mission to provide care, training and research.  And sometimes the best way to truly understand why we do the work we do is to see for yourself. If you’re part of the AMPATH family, we’d love to have you in the part of the world we hold so dear. All visitors with approved travel to AMPATH programs are required to complete the Visitor Information Form.

MEDICAL STUDENTS AND RESIDENTS

Medical students and medical residents at universities who are part of the AMPATH Consortium may choose a two-month elective experience in Eldoret, Kenya. There, they serve alongside their Kenyan counterparts, training together, providing care for a population of more than 8 million people, and engaging in global health research. It’s a truly life-changing experience.

For more information on how to get involved in student and resident programs, please reach out to our Assistant Director for Logistics and Education. Our Kenya Logistics Manual also has detailed information for medical students and others traveling to Eldoret. You are also welcome to review our Recommended Reading List.

DONORS AND SUPPORTERS

We invite all of our donors and supporters to see and experience the impact of their generosity. Visit the hospitals, clinics, shelters, schools, and most importantly, people that AMPATH supports and collaborates with every single day. They’re the real reason behind our work, and the most inspiring part of what we do.

WHERE YOU'LL STAY: IU HOUSE

Most visitors and program participants join us at the IU House, a compound of 12 buildings in Eldoret, Kenya. The IU House has a full staff to attend to the needs of all visitors, and there’s a palpable sense of community everywhere you turn.

Safety

The IU House is protected by two gates, guarded 24 hours a day.

Dining

Meals are prepared for guests paying full fees, who enjoy them together in our dining room. Guests also have access to a pantry.

Attractions

Eldoret is a principal Kenyan city, with plenty of restaurants and night life, as well as the essential grocery stores, banks, and more.

Community

Long-term and short-term participants staying at IU House get to know the AMPATH family at meals, weekly “fire-side chats”, and celebrations.
