USAID AMPATH Uzima Commemorates World Immunization Week
During the global launch of World Immunization Week in April, USAID AMPATH Uzima joined the event at Endebess Sub-County Hospital in Trans Nzoia County. Mothers received essential immunization services for their children and lactating mothers received nutritional guidance on how to strengthen their own immunity and that of their children.
The day started with a vibrant procession led by two community champions who encouraged young bystanders to join the celebration. A highlight of the day was a talk by the champions who shared their personal stories of contracting polio after missing timely vaccinations in childhood. The duo encouraged the mothers present and emphasized that it doesn’t have to be the same story for today’s children as timely vaccination can make all the difference.
The event was honored by the presence of Dr. Kisiang'ani I. Babu, the Director of Health for the County Government of Trans Nzoia, who debunked myths surrounding vaccines and reassured attendees that all vaccines used in the county are thoroughly researched and approved by the World Health Organization. Representatives from the Social Health Authority reaffirmed their commitment to supporting parents from conception through delivery and beyond.
Mr. Stephen Odima, the Deputy Program Manager & Newborn and Child Health Coordinator, reemphasized the importance of vaccination, urging their counterparts across the county to prioritize and consistently enforce key messages around immunization to maximize community reach and impact.
In attendance were members of the County Health Management Team, the Deputy County Commissioner, County Nursing Officer, County Health Promotion Officers, Sub-County Officers, Nutritionists, Reproductive Health Officers, Biomedical Officers, Sub-County Public Health nurses from Cherangany, Kiminini, Endebess, and Saboti, as well as laboratory staff and dedicated community health promoters among others.
