AMPATH Assists People Affected by Flooding in Busia

For the residents of Budalangi in Kenya, rebuilding after a flood is a familiar occurrence. Every year or so, when the country experiences heavy rains, the river Nzoia flowing into Lake Victoria bursts its banks. This year the flooding was not only much worse, but it was further compounded by the COVID-19 situation. In light of the immediate crisis, AMPATH was one of the partners that quickly moved to respond to the situation with two rounds of food donations.

COVID-19 and Flooding Create Hardships

Kenya reports 1348 COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday, May 26, and had its highest daily increase of 80 new cases last Thursday. Although the cases continue to be concentrated in the Nairobi and Mombasa areas, 28 of Kenya’s 47 counties now have confirmed coronavirus cases including Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, Busia and Bungoma.

COVID-19 Update for Kenya April 17, 2020

This week the Kenya Ministry of Health announced expanded testing capacity for COVID-19 across Kenya including at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).

As of Friday, April 17, there were 246 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country and 11 people had died as a result of the coronavirus. The Ministry of Health reports that 53 people have recovered.
