With Stock or Securities

A gift of appreciated stock, mutual funds or other publicly traded securities may allow you to make a significant contribution to AMPATH while potentially avoiding capital-gains tax and qualifying for a charitable deduction, depending on your circumstances. Please consult your financial or tax advisor regarding the consequences of your gift.

Before transferring anything, please notify us of your intent to give, how you want the gift to be used, and the amount. Learn more about IU Foundation and gifts of securities.

Via Wire Transfer

The Indiana University Foundation can receive gifts through domestic or international wire transfer.

Because banking instructions can change and should be transmitted securely, please contact the AMPATH philanthropic team before initiating a wire. We will provide the current instructions and help ensure your contribution is designated correctly for AMPATH.

When contacting us, please include your name, the anticipated amount and date of the transfer, and the AMPATH fund or program you would like to support.

IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions

Eligible donors may support AMPATH through a Qualified Charitable Distribution, or QCD, made directly from an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to the Indiana University Foundation.

A QCD may count toward some or all of an eligible donor’s required minimum distribution and is generally excluded from taxable income. QCD eligibility, annual limits and required-minimum-distribution rules are subject to change. Please consult your IRA administrator and professional tax advisor before making a gift.

For the gift to qualify, the distribution must be made directly by the IRA administrator to the Indiana University Foundation. Please ask that the gift be designated for AMPATH and notify our team so we can identify and acknowledge it properly.

Donor-Advised Funds

A donor-advised fund, or DAF, allows you to recommend grants from funds you have already set aside for charitable giving.

To support AMPATH, ask your sponsoring organization to recommend a grant to: Indiana University Foundation (Federal Tax ID: 35-6018940)

Please include the following designation with your recommendation: For the benefit of IU School of Medicine’s AMPATH Kenya Operating Fund, account #I380016128.

You may also designate your grant for another eligible AMPATH fund or approved initiative. Please contact us before recommending a restricted grant so we can confirm the appropriate fund name and account information.

DAF grants should not provide more than incidental benefits to the donor and generally cannot be used to satisfy a legally binding pledge. Your DAF sponsor can provide guidance on its policies.

Legacy Gift Planning

A gift through your will, trust, retirement account, life-insurance policy or other estate plan can create a lasting legacy of healthier communities and stronger health systems.

Legacy gifts may be structured as a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, particular property or the remainder of your estate after other commitments have been fulfilled. You can also name the Indiana University Foundation as a full, partial or contingent beneficiary of an IRA or other account.

 Sample bequest language:

“To Indiana University Foundation, for the benefit of IU School of Medicine’s AMPATH Kenya Operating Fund bearing account #I380016128.”

Our team can work with you and your professional advisors to confirm the appropriate legal name and designation.

Charitable Gift Annuities

A charitable gift annuity, or CGA, can provide fixed payments to you or another beneficiary for life in exchange for an irrevocable gift of cash or eligible appreciated assets.

A portion of the contribution may qualify for an immediate charitable deduction, and part of each payment may receive favorable tax treatment. Payments may begin immediately or, in some arrangements, be deferred until a future date.

In short, CGAs are a philanthropic tool that supports a donor’s chosen AMPATH program while providing a fixed lifetime income stream.

Gift-annuity rates and tax benefits depend on factors including the donor’s age, the number of beneficiaries, the type of asset contributed and the date payments begin. A personalized illustration can help you and your advisors evaluate whether a CGA is appropriate.

Matching Gifts

Your employer may match charitable contributions made by employees, retirees or employees’ spouses—potentially doubling or even tripling the impact of your gift.

Ask your employer’s human-resources or corporate-giving office whether it offers a matching-gift program. When submitting your request, identify the charitable recipient as:

Indiana University Foundation

Federal Tax ID: 35-6018940

Please designate the matching gift for AMPATH Kenya and include the same fund information used for your original contribution whenever possible.

Some companies also offer grants in recognition of employee volunteer service.

Institutional Development and Corporate Grants

Foundations, corporations and other institutional partners play a vital role in advancing AMPATH’s work in care, training, research and health-system strengthening.

  • Partnership opportunities may include:

  • Supporting an established program or strategic priority

  • Providing seed funding for an innovative initiative

  • Funding clinical training, education or research

  • Strengthening facilities, technology and infrastructure

  • Sponsoring community-based health and economic-empowerment programs

  • Providing multi-year or unrestricted support

Our team welcomes the opportunity to learn about your organization’s priorities and develop a partnership aligned with shared goals.

Donate Supplies or Equipment

AMPATH appreciates offers of medical supplies, equipment, technology and other in-kind support. However, not every item can be accepted or used effectively.

Before collecting, purchasing or shipping anything, please contact us. Proposed donations must be reviewed with AMPATH’s clinical, procurement, logistics and program teams in Kenya. Considerations may include:

  • A demonstrated program need

  • Compatibility with local systems and facilities

  • Product condition and remaining useful life

  • Availability of replacement parts and consumables

  • Training, installation and maintenance requirements

  • Electrical and technical specifications

  • Shipping, customs and storage costs

  • Kenyan regulatory and import requirements

Whenever practical, AMPATH prioritizes purchasing appropriate goods in Kenya or the surrounding region. Local procurement can reduce shipping and customs costs, improve compatibility and maintenance, strengthen supply chains and support local economies.

Please do not ship unsolicited items.
