AMPATH Kenya welcomes Lucia Janovic, MD, as the new pediatric in-country lead. Dr. Janovic was drawn to the role because of AMPATH’s unique partnership model focused on bidirectional relationships. “With its impact on medical education, research, quality and accessibility of health care in the Western region of Kenya, AMPATH is well-known both nationally and internationally and is inspiring other institutions all around the world. I am honored to be a part of this model,” she said.

Dr. Janovic received her medical training at Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic, and completed her pediatric residency and master’s degree in public health at the State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University. Following her residency, she completed a global health fellowship working with SUNY’s international partner, Maseno School of Medicine in Kisumu, Kenya. “Working here motivates me to become the best doctor, educator and researcher I can possibly be.  There are challenges but there is so much potential represented by talented professionals,” she added.

“We are fortunate to have Dr. Janovic join our partnership,” said Kara Wools-Kaloustian, MD, executive director of the AMPATH Consortium in Kenya. “Her global health background, previous experience in Kenya and her commitment to guiding future healthcare leaders will be a great combination to advance pediatric initiatives.”

“As a part of my MPH program and fellowship, my team and I developed a project focusing on Antimicrobial Stewardship and Development of Antibiogram for Obama Children's Hospital in Kisumu and the work is still ongoing,” Dr. Janovic said. She also has an interest in sickle cell care and advocacy. “I am coming to AMPATH with an open mind and heart to be ready to take up on new projects and challenges based on the needs in the community.”

Karibu Dr. Janovic!
