AMPATH Research Translation & Health Policy Core Sets Webinar
AMPATH has a strong history of translating research into policy and practice through longstanding partnerships and impactful projects, but a recent needs assessment also identified opportunities to build on these successes by developing more structured approaches, strengthening connections across researchers and stakeholders and providing additional support for research translation activities.
The AMPATH Research Translation & Health Policy Core welcomes the AMPATH community to participate in a webinar on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 8 a.m. EDT/3 p.m. EAT to share the findings of its AMPATH Research Translation Needs Assessment and introduce the Core's portfolio of services. Conducted as part of AMPATH's strategic commitment to strengthening research translation and policy engagement, the assessment gathered perspectives from AMPATH investigators, county governments, Kenya Ministry of Health, and partner institutions to better understand how research can more effectively inform policy, practice and population health.
Stakeholders identified several areas that would aid them in having more structured and intentional pathways to policy impact. These include:
earlier structured engagement with policymakers and communities
actionable research products
stronger policy partnerships
increased capacity in areas such as policy engagement, media communication, monitoring and evaluation and research translation planning.
These insights are now informing the priorities and services of the AMPATH Research Translation & Health Policy Core.
During this 90-minute webinar, attendees will receive an overview of the needs assessment findings while learning how the new Research Translation & Policy Core can complement and support teams from proposal development through dissemination and implementation. The session will introduce services including strategy development, stakeholder engagement, policy and dissemination planning, policy brief development, capacity-building workshops and facilitating connections with policy makers. Participants will learn how these services can build on existing strengths at AMPATH to increase the impact of projects and programs.
Although the Research Translation & Health Policy Core is designed primarily to support AMPATH Kenya, this webinar can spark broader conversations across AMPATH Global and other key stakeholders from counties, national government, health and academic institutions. The needs assessment and Core provide a practical, replicable model that could be adapted in Ghana, Mexico, Nepal and in other countries to more systematically understand and respond to policy and practice needs in the pathway from research to impact.
